How to Play Spider Solitaire
Spider Solitaire is a popular card game played with 2 decks of cards (104 cards total). The goal is to arrange all cards into 8 complete sequences from King down to Ace in the same suit. Complete sequences are automatically removed from the tableau to the foundation.
The Tableau
The playing field consists of 10 columns. At the start, 54 cards are dealt — 6 cards in each of the first 4 columns and 5 in the remaining 6 columns. Only the top card in each column is face up. The remaining 50 cards form the stock pile.
Moving Cards
You can move a face-up card onto another card that is one rank higher, regardless of suit. However, only same-suit descending sequences can be moved together as a group. Any card or valid sequence can be placed into an empty column. When no moves remain, deal one new card to each column from the stock.
3 Difficulty Levels
1 Suit (Spades only) is perfect for beginners — focus on sequencing without worrying about suits. 2 Suits (Spades & Hearts) adds moderate challenge. 4 Suits is the classic full Spider Solitaire experience for experts.
Winning Tips
- Empty columns are powerful — use them as temporary storage to reveal hidden face-down cards.
- Focus on building same-suit sequences whenever possible, even if mixed-suit moves are available.
- Use the undo button (Ctrl+Z) freely to explore different strategies.
- Deal from the stock only when no useful moves remain. All columns must have at least one card before dealing.
